Primary Curriculum (Years 1–6)
The Primary Department at HISV covers Years 1 to 6, operating as a two-form entry school with two classes in every year group. Year 1 accommodates up to 24 students per class, while Years 2–6 enrol up to 25. Our learning environment balances academic expectations with emotional wellbeing, helping students grow with confidence, curiosity and independence.
Our Curriculum Framework
HISV follows the Oxford International Curriculum (OIC), a modern and holistic framework that places wellbeing, global skills and academic rigor at the heart of learning. Together, these subjects create a balanced, engaging curriculum that nurtures academic growth and emotional development.

Wellbeing, Global Skills & Sustainability
Wellbeing
Wellbeing lessons help students understand their emotions and develop the skills needed to build healthy, positive relationships. Children learn to recognise how their thoughts and feelings influence their actions, which supports emotional stability and self-awareness.
They explore how feelings influence behaviour and learn constructive strategies for managing challenges.

Teaching & Learning Approach
Our teaching combines research-based methods with personalised support. Through modelling, guided practice, inquiry and structured feedback, students build strong understanding and become independent, capable learners.
Ongoing Initiatives
Each year, we focus on targeted improvements that enhance learning across the Primary School. Current initiatives support communication, collaboration, clear learning expectations and strong study habits. The Primary Department focuses on key areas such as:
Strengthening spoken English
Improving handwriting
Clarifying success criteria
Enhancing collaboration
Developing executive functioning skills

Transitions
We provide structured support to help students move smoothly between stages of school life. Carefully planned routines and orientation programmes ensure children feel prepared, confident and excited for the next step.

Foundation 2 → Year 1
Most primary students transition from our EYFS programme. During the first 6–7 weeks, Year 1 maintains selected EYFS routines to support a smooth start.
Year 6 → Year 7
Year 6 students join a half-day Secondary orientation where they meet teachers, tour the campus, attend core subject lessons, receive organisational guidance and receive their locker.
